Women are for Mars, Men stay on Earth

A 2012 press release states that astronaut Mike Barratt needed reading glasses after spending six months on the international space station. Now NASA is looking into how to protect astronauts from going blind on what may someday be trips lasting years. However the same report stated that the female astronauts who spent the same time aboard the international space station did not experience any degradation in their eye sight.
According to Gray most of common relationship problems between men and women are a result of fundamental differences between the genders, which Gray postulates that men and women are from distinct planets, – men from Mars and women from Venus – and that each gender is acclimated to its own planet's society and customs, but not those of the other
In the book there is an example of the claim that men complain about problems because they are asking for solutions while women complain about problems because they want their problems to be acknowledged. The author also believes that the genders can be understood in terms of purported differences in how they behave under stress.
NASA has asked the US government to budget billions of dollars for man to travel to Mars. In light of the recent NASA study on male astronaut eyesight problems after spending months on the space station maybe NASA will have to pitch to the US government a grant for womankind to travel the planets.
Those who have studied body language will be aware that the female peripheral vision is greater than the male’s so whereas when a man and woman meet the male eye scan of the female is noticeable and legendary whereas the female vision is such that a the average woman can check out a man’s vital statistics with hardly the movement of an eyeball.
So what of the much heralded man exploring the planets that President Kennedy spoke about all those decades ago. Imagine if on the TV series Star Trek they said where ‘woman boldly goes’, wouldn’t have quite the same ring to it.
The USA has never had a female president and if the run up to the 2012 elections are anything to go by we are least a decade away from a woman becoming president of the United States. So if the NASA exploration of Mars has to be staffed by women, assuming men would go blind after this interstellar travel, then it would certainly catapult women to the front on future presidential races. Why? Well the macho factor plays a part in the election of a US president and so if its only women who can travel to Mars doesn’t that subjugate men to a secondary role.
There used to be a saying “behind every great man is a great woman” so maybe in the era of space travel that may be changed to “ there is a great woman in front of every great man”
So if Earth colonizes Mars it’s conceivable that only women may populate the planet which raises an interesting specter for the future of that planet. Because the male testosterone is the underlying cause of millenniums of war on earth would a female only colonized planet Mars be a tranquil place to live. In fact a Utopia?
The next few years will be telling. Would a male dominated US government fund a mission to Mars which can only be staffed by women? Who knows it might be a catalyst for more women to get into government.

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)Great insight! Ye for us females! This is a great article! So if future astronauts will be women should the name be changed to reflect it as a predominently female profession? The French translation is astronaute which sounds more femine than male although the dictionary says the geneder can be male or female.
Great food for thought! Since the facts are presented by the government re the blindness for men in space, scepticism is most likely. Did the government do a controlled study? Testerone, coupled with male isolation was feared to bring about behavior purported to cause blindness in young boys on this planet, in little midwestern hometowns, particularly in religious families....or so went the threat by worried mothers when little Johnie started growing a mustache and presented other frightening signs of puberty. Maybe there was something to it. Astronauts way up there, no women, ....might not be just the space thing.
As for John Gray, renowned priest turned marriage counselor, author of best seller, Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus, as well as Mars and Venus in the Bedroom, his credibility lines up with our government after he got a divorce. Keep thinking. Keep writing. There's an answer somewhere.A male friend who read the article suggested that this would be a great opportunity for blind men to excel on the planet Mars. Maybe he has a point. So would a planet populated by women and blind men be a Utopia where everyone lived in harmony?
I really like the way you think.Ella, I am forever trying to join up the dots in life. Well we all need a pat on the back once in a while so thanks for that.
